Really Good Peanut Butter
Plenty of people seem to think peanut butter is a fattening food but this is far from the truth. An ‘all natural’ nut butter made from just peanuts and salt is actually a really healthy addition to the diet. Be wary of peanut butters with added sugar or labeled ‘lite’. Even better, make your own nut butter with almonds, peanuts and cashews. If you are lazy like me, just grab a jar of Pics Peanut Butter from your local health store or market. At the beginning of the month we ran a competition to win a massive jar of Pics Really Good Peanut Butter. To enter, all you had to do was email us with your favourite way to enjoy Pic's Peanut Butter. Here are some of your ideas.
Brodie - I love to have it in a sandwich with sultanas! Weird I know but yum! Peanut butter and cinnamon buns! YUM! - Sophie :) I like my peanut butter on vogels toast. The toast has go through the toaster a few times though to be really crunchy and hot. It almost melts the peanut butter on to itself and there has to be a good layer of peanut butter. Very yummy. Much better than my neighbors idea of mixing it with avocado on toast! Vanessa Peanut butter smothered on a crumpet (optional ¼ banana mashed) Ryvita cracker, peanut butter sprinkled with seed mix (sesame, almonds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds) Hi, I sometimes substitute Tahini with Peanut Butter - the one with no Added Sugar, when making Hummus, more economical. Cheers Carol I have been a fan of this peanut butter since I found it at the Nelson Market over a year ago. Recently Annabelle White did a peanut butter review in the paper, she also mentioned it was available at Takapuna Market. That day I went to Takapuna market and he had sold out, so there are a lot of fans of this peanut butter. There are a multitude of yummy ways to eat it (of course the obvious is by the spoonful straight from the jar) but alas that is not the best option because it gravitates lower down your body and settles where you would rather it did not. So a fairly healthy way to eat it (sounds odd) is spreading some on super fresh crunchy celery and eating it straight away. Its an oldy but a goody. Kate Take a stick of celery – fill the gap with peanut butter and place some raisins along the top of peanut butter – fondly known as bugs on logs in our house! Jayne On Vogels with Bananas-delicious or baked in a chocolate muffin. I love PICS on whole grain toast, with a scrape of marmite, a layer of PICS, and a top layer of manuka honey! delicious!! Judy So many ways to enjoy peanut butter where do I begin ... my current favourite is peanut butter topped with a thin layer of anathoth raspberry jam – great on any type of bread, toast or cracker. A close second would be a peanut butter (spread thickly) and chicken chip sandwich (shhhhhh don’t tell Jackie!) Steph. My favorite way to enjoy this peanut butter is on wholegrain bread spread with Pics peanut butter, grated celery, grated carrot and raisins. It is yum. Regards Bettina My favourite peanut butter! Can't beat eating it out of a jar with a spoon! I know this sounds really unusual, but I got introduced to a peanut and capsicum sandwich about 5 years ago… It was not until I had gathered the courage and tried this weird combo that I then became a disciple and annoyed others to accept I wasn’t mad but enthused with the smooth peanut butter with the fresh ‘CRUNCH’ of fresh sliced green capsicum. Hey… and it’s healthy! Cheers Bill Peanut butter is a health food but skip the lite version and choose the right brand. Remember with any nuts, it’s the healthy fats you’re after, so choose a brand with the least ingredients, ideally just peanuts and salt. Nothing beats a couple of rye crackers with a tablespoon of nut butter to ease a craving. As a general guide, a healthy peanut butter will come in a glass jar, contain zero sugar and no added fats.
