Kids Need To Be Active



Kids should be out and about getting at least 60 minutes of physical activity most days of the week.



Try these simple tips to get your child moving:





  1. Make time for family activities. There are plenty of activities that you can do with your child to make sure they are active each day: biking, skating, swimming, playing tag, playing catch, playing at the local park, walking the dog, playing games like basketball, football etc. Keep activities fun rather than competitive so that your child is sure to enjoy them.
  2. Walk or bike with your child instead of driving for short errands.
  3. Schedule birthday parties at skating rinks, parks, play-grounds, supervised swimming pools and other activity-oriented places.
  4. Encourage your child to run more, play tag and get involved in other outdoor activities and games at both school and home. Make it fun!
  5. Limit screen time (TV or computer) to no more than 2 hours a day.
  6. Walk to school with your child, or get them involved in the “walking school bus”. It’s a great head start to getting their 60 minutes of daily activity.
  7. Show your child that you enjoy physical activity. Let them see you enjoying activities such as walking and playing sports.
  8. Don’t let the weather stop you - keep your child active in winter too. Take them to local indoor pools, get them involved in activities at local sports clubs, or get them to try some dance classes.
