I could not believe how good it felt. Before then, I had been eating at near starvation levels, according to Jacqui. There had been too much carbohydrate, too few vegetables, very little protein and not enough quality snacks to keep my metabolism fired into action. Yet food is just part of the picture. At each fortnightly consultation, Jacqui writes down my achievements and strengths. We set new goals that might simply be getting more sleep or remembering to pack a protein bar if I'm out with the kids late in the day. This week I will celebrate my 50th birthday and I'm at a place in my life that I never dared to dream of a year ago. I'm happy with the way I look and I feel okay about saying that.

Why is Your Diet Important?

Food is essential for life. It provides energy and nutrients; the substances our bodies need each day to function and grow. A nutrient is a substance obtained from food and used in the body to promote growth, maintenance and repair.

Fad Diets

Fad Diets do not work. There are a multitude of diets that claim to be of benefit in achieving weight reduction. Most diets are starvation diets or have a distorted nutrient balance. Low calorie diets slow down your metabolism, making it progressively more difficult to lose weight and keep it off. Anytime the body is fed less than the minimum amount of calories necessary to provide the 50+ nutrients we need daily, it struggles to survive the ordeal by activating an enzyme (lipoprotein lipase) that encourages metabolic slow down and fat storage.

Nutrient's

The six key classes of nutrients are:

  1. Water
  2. Carbohydrates
  3. Fat
  4. Protein
  5. Vitamins
  6. Minerals

The simple truth is that we eat to live.

Our bodies use food to function day in and day out, we use food to pump blood, to keep us warm, to think and to move.

Like a car running on premium fuel, we rely on nutrients from food to fuel the millions of bodily processes to keep us alive and in good health. If we eat too much, we become obese, if we get insufficient nutrients or calories then health problems occur, if we rely on fast foods, alcohol and processed snacks to fuel our bodies then our bodies will fight back and bodily functions will be less efficient, this might show up as High Cholesterol, High Blood Pressure, Indigestion, Reflux, or Type 2 Diabetes.

The Human Body will only put up with junk for so long; it will warn us of excessive dietary imbalances with an increasing waistline, or tiredness you can’t seem to shake.

Life Changing
I now see my nutritionist every Wednesday and she is one of the most important people in my life. She teaches me and mentors me on my long journey to losing 40 kilos of fat. She makes me feel very comfortable, like I am part of the Real Nutrition family. She fine tunes my healthy eating plan every week and tops up my nutritional supplements. She supported me to move to another gym and get a personal trainer to undergo regular resistance training and cardio sessions. To date I have lost 14 kilos of fat. I feel so healthy, strong and in control.I haven't been sick for months, and my doctor wants to take me off my blood pressure and cholesterol medication at my next 3 monthly visit.
