MediaReal Nutrition MediaStarting the year with a pot of ZestTuesday, 27 January 2009 The Bell Tea & Coffee Company has worked with nutritionist, Jacquie Dale, from North Shore’s Real Nutrition, to develop a 30-day “Zest for Life” challenge. Designed to help you get back your zest for life, the programme is a realistic and achievable fitness and nutrition programme, combining healthy eating and exercise with a few cups of Bell Zesty Green Tea each day to help with the detoxifying and re-hydrating process. Most people let their healthy eating regime slip a little around the festive season. With Christmas parties, work functions, the festivities of Christmas day, and the celebrations of New Year’s Eve, it’s hard to remain disciplined, and easy to fall off the healthy track. A detox is a great way to help you get back on track, and kick-start the process of a new and healthier you for 2009. While embarking on a detox may seem a bit daunting at first, the truth is, it needn’t be. It could be as simple as drinking more water and cutting back on processed foods for a few days. Upping your green tea intake is a great (not to mention simple) way to help get your body back on track, and keep it there. By simply drinking four cups of tea a day, studies have shown that you can get enough antioxidants to help assist your body to fight free radicals, and improve your health. If you follow the ‘Great Tea Takes Three’ rule and brew your tea for at least three minutes, you will further increase the antioxidant content of your tea, and therefore maximise the health benefits within it. The Zest for Life Challenge begins with a fun online health check for people to see if their lives could be improved by undertaking a health and fitness regime. Business to Business Jan 2009 Kiwi's Hooked on Unhealthy Food - Sunday Star TimesNutritionist Jacquie Dale analyses the top five supermarket sellers Coca-Cola (1.5l bottles): One litre of Coke contains over 1800 empty kilojoules you would have to walk fast for more than two hours to work off. A litre of Coke contains 106g of sugar more than 26 teaspoons. I call Coke naked carbs lots of empty calories with no nutrients. Drinking a lot of Coke is a sure way to develop problems such as type 2 diabetes.Wattie's spaghetti 420g: This food is low in fat but high in sodium. A better meal would be to make spaghetti from scratch and add plenty of vegetables and canned tomatoes. Coke again (2.25l): Cheaper than milk how sad. I don't classify Coke as a food it offers no worthy nutrients. QB Nature's Fresh White Toast: Oh no! Naked carbs again. Not so bad if you're going to pack two slices with lots of salad and some lean protein but if this is going to be a toast, jam or Nutella feast then white bread is not a healthy option. Wholegrain loaves are more expensive, but are filling and much more nutritious, so you use less. Hopefully all this white bread isn't going under the spaghetti, because the tomato sauce doesn't count as a vege serve in my book. Wattie's baked beans 420g: Although beans are good for you and packed with fibre, a can of baked beans has almost 30g of sugar. This is a low fat product and high in fibre, but does it require 1890mg of salt and 29g of sugar to make it taste good? Choose the reduced salt version.
