Ben - Pulp Sport![]() 8am: Arrived at work and had a coffee and a toasted bagel with marmite. We bought a coffee machine for the office to save money, which it does, unfortunately it doesn’t save on time – takes a good four days to make a poor tasting coffee. Stole the bagels from John Campbell’s cubbyhole behind TV3 reception. Didn’t see John on his TV show later that night so hoping him not having his morning bagel didn’t have anything to do with that. Also have a multi vitamin as we’re working stupid hours at the moment and I love that sweet multi vitamin after taste when you burp.
10am; Out filming for the new series of Pulp Sport, which if you’re wondering, is on air Friday 9.30pm on TV3 from August 21st. Was feeling a little hungry and remembered I had an apple on the dashboard in the work van but unfortunately Bill had also remembered there was an apple in the van about 20 minutes before hand! Had to settle for a half a packet of Eclipse mints which I had in my pocket – not sure of the nutritional value of these but I am feeling a mild laxative effect. 1pm: Lunch time - the hardest decision of our day. We once had a large wheel with lunch time options on it which we spun to make the decision for us. We even went to the trouble of asking Jason Gunn to pop by and host our lunch time wheel spin but he wouldn’t work for free - he’s changed. Today, without any wheel assistance, we chose the café closest to our office as Bill hates physical exercise. Oh, and we have heaps of work to do (did I mention the new series of Pulp Sport starts on like August 21st?). Today I have a BLAT sandwich with a juice and a banana. Was also going to eat a small bag of rashins that I had on my desk but Bill had eaten those too. He says he does it to keep me being the “skinny one” - he’s such a good friend. 3pm: More filming in the afternoon and making a dick of myself around town but stop back at the office briefly for a coffee and another of John Campbell’s bagels… marvellous! 7pm: Stop our editing for a dinner run which tonight is a Thai Panang Curry from the Ponsonby Foodcourt. Buy a Coke Zero from the super courteous Asian guy at the drink place and try my best to thank him more times than he thanks me. But he wins 9 “Thank Yous” to 6 - not a bad effort on my behalf though. Jacquie says Ben’s diet is a classic example of one of my favourite sayings, ‘ a failure to plan is a plan for failure”. Every meal he eats is either a takeaway or it’s stolen. If Ben considers his body to be a Lamborghini, (he entered a bodybuilding show once) then he's running it on un-refined diesel. Perhaps we need to get Alison Holst on the show to teach the boys a thing or two on food preparation. I know Ben had a big day on the set but surely one home cooked meal could have found its way in there. Whilst his eating is as random as his show is funny (yes, I'm a fan) there's nothing funny about the long term damage this sort of nutritional abuse will be setting him up for later in life. Having said that, I’ve seen much worse. There are plenty of men in New Zealand with a reckless diet and Ben earns a point for actually eating a piece of fruit. At least he had a diet soft drink instead of a sugar laden one and he took a multivitamin, but at the end of a day like this, it's like putting a band aid on a bullet wound. Was there any water?
